Luke Ravenstahl, Pittsburgh’s mayor, has come up with a plan to help the city’s residents think of him on May 19th, the day of the primary, according to a recent article in USA Today. He has spent $250,000 for 250 trash cans with his name on it. By using a sophisticated computer, I was able to calculate that the unit cost of each of these bins is $1000 each.
A not-so-quick search on the internet revealed that a 33-gallon container, the standard size for households, costs less $100. So, that leaves about $900 for the paint. Something doesn’t sound quite right here. The local Boy Scouts, I’m sure, would have done it for less.
Why is this Another Fine Mess? For the simple reason that the mayor may be remembered for reasons he’d rather forget.
